Ronne, Bornholm, Sweden

History lives on the gentle Baltic winds that carries Bornholm. The island’s fortified round churches and archaic ruins are its legacy and strike sharp contrast to the contemporary beach resorts. Akirkeby, at the island’s center, is the largest and oldest town. Founded in 1346, it was a popular medieval spiritual center. Stroll Gudhjelm to admire the colorful seaside town. Wisps from smokehouse chimneys fill the air with the scent of cured herring. At the town’s Oluf Host Museum, many canvases depict local scenes.
